Maple Mania
The directors of MMPA are working hard to design and plan our first "Maple Mania." This three day event will be a first for the state of Maine. Sugarmakers from all over the northeast and Canada will meet from June 9-11 in Farmington, Maine. The event will start on Thursday evening and run through mid afternoon on Saturday. Activities will include touring local sugarhouses, many informative technical sessions for both large and small producers, and a Friday night banquet. Look for more information in the future as MMPA plans this exciting event for the sweetest people on earth- Maple Syrup Producers.
Production Reporting
New England Agricultural Statistics Survey is currently collecting 2010 statistics for syrup production from all states at this point. If you have not been called or did not receive a survey form in the mail, you can contact them directly at 1-800-642-9571. They are will ask questions about 2010 production and seasonal conditions. They will also be looking for information on how much syrup was sold in 2009 and the prices each size container was sold for. This information will be vital if Maine is to remain a top syrup producing state.
